What does it mean to know God? What does a relationship with Him even look like?
Romans 10:9 declares “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Based on this verse and others in the Bible, knowing God is as simple as ABC:
- Admit you are a sinner and have made mistakes.
- Believe that Jesus is God’s Son who died on the cross for you and rose up from the grave on the third day.
- Confess Jesus as the Lord of your life, and commit yourself to a life of following Jesus and serving others.
Here is a simple sinner’s prayer that you can pray to know God:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’s name, Amen.”
What Now?
If you have prayed to God this way and meant it, you are a Christian. You might not feel any different, but the gospel is about facts not feelings. If you have put your faith in Christ, then you have been forgiven and He has come into your life.
Here are four things to help you grow in this relationship and make it REAL.
1) Read – Be sure to read your Bible every day, starting with the book of John.
2) Encounter – Encounter God every day through prayer.
3) Attend – Attend and get plugged in to a local, Bible-teaching church (like ours).
4) Let Others Know – Go and tell others what God has done in your life.
